The first 15 episodes were new versions of Dimension X episodes, but the remainder were adaptations of newly published science fiction stories by leading writers in the field, including Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Philip K. Episodes of the show include adaptations of Robert Sheckley's "Skulking Permit," Bradbury's "Mars Is Heaven," Heinlein's "Universe" and "The Green Hills of Earth", " Pohl's "The Tunnel under the World," J. T. McIntosh's "Hallucination Orbit," Fritz Leiber's "A Pail of Air" and George Lefferts' "The Parade." The program opened with announcer Fred Collins delivering the countdown, leading into this introduction (although later shows were partnered with Galaxy Science Fiction rather than Astounding Science Fiction): Countdown for blastoff... X minus five, four, three, two, X minus one... Fire! [Rocket launch SFX] From the far horizons of the unknown come transcribed tales of new dimensions in time and space. These are stories of the future; adventures in which you'll live in a million could-be years on a thousand may-be worlds. The National Broadcasting Company in cooperation with Street and Smith, publishers of Astounding Science Fiction presents... X Minus One.. The series was cancelled after the 126th broadcast on January 9, 1958. However, the early 1970s brought a wave of nostalgia for old-time radio; a new experimental episode, "The Iron Chancellor" by Robert Silverberg, was created in 1973, but it failed to revive the series. NBC also tried broadcasting the old recordings, but their irregular once-monthly scheduling kept even devoted listeners from following the broadcasts. All episodes of the show survive.

ROBERT W MORGAN - Bigfoot - In 1956 and while serving as a 2nd Class Petty Officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Princeton, Robert W. Morgan had an encounter with what is now commonly termed a Sasquatch or Bigfoot. While hunting in the mountains of Mason County, Washington, he responded to the sounds of rustling in the brush uphill and behind him. There he spotted patches of blackish hair moving away quickly through the brush. Naturally, he assumed it was a bear. However, when it paused in a small opening, he found himself facing a large bipedal hominoid. This entity stood erect the entire time expressing surprise, indignation and curiosity - but not anger. Morgan himself felt amazed yet not threatened. After several moments of exchanging stares, Morgan chose to leave the area. As a young man from a steel town in Ohio, he had not yet heard of the Sasquatch or the Bigfoot. His attempt to report to local law enforcement his encounter with "an escaped gorilla" was not taken seriously. Worse, when he tried to share his story with his shipmates they also assumed he was joking. He angrily vowed to return to that area to repeat his encounter. It was those intelligent eyes that most intrigued him.

DAVID CHAMPION - Psychic - Since David was 9 he has experienced various forms of psychic information. At that age he was answering the phone by greeting the person he knew would be on the other end -- until his father made it quite clear that he'd prefer he stopped since it was unnerving to those calling the house! In 1980 he was working at a funeral home while he was a graduate student, and the psychic gift "flared up"! One evening he received a call and at the end of the conversation he said, "I don't understand why, but I believe I know everything about you." The woman on the phone then asked him several questions, all of which he answered correctly. Well, that had been interesting but David didn't think it signified anything special. In the morning when his shift was over he went across the street to a grocery store and while in line he observed the cashier and just knew she was upset my something. When she rang up his items and put the change in his hand, he looked at her and said, "Your brother who is in a hospital in Wisconsin will be okay." She looked at David and -- screamed -- and started crying!! Everyone thought a robbery was being committed. After that particular excitement died down (and yes, her brother was in a hospital in Wisconsin and she had told no one locally about it), there followed about a two week period of overwhelming psychic information coming to him. he could feel the pain and feelings of people wherever he went.

GRANT CAMERON - UFOs and US Presidents - Grant Cameron became involved in Ufology in May 1975 with personal sightings of an object which locally became known as Charlie Red Star. The sightings occurred in Carman, Manitoba about 25 miles north of the Canada-US border. Hundreds of other people sighted objects at the same time during a prolonged flap of sightings.Over the next 18 months he had many sightings of large objects and small (monitor) objects in the area. He spent countless days in the area photographing a series of strange objects and interviewing hundreds of witnesses who were involved. After composing a manuscript about the flap, he moved on to research the work of the late Wilbert B. Smith. Smith headed up the Canadian government flying saucer investigation known as Project Magnet which ran from 1950 to 1954. During two decades of work on Smith, Cameron was able to collect most of Smith's files and material written. He interviewed most of the associates around Smith who worked on the flying saucer investigation. He has produced a CD-Rom data disk that hold most of the documents from the Smith files, along with 12 hours of audio related to Smith's work. Years of Smith research led to the discovery of former Penn State University president Dr. Eric Walker, who was identified by Dr. Robert Sarbacher as a key person inside the UFO cover-up. Cameron teamed up with T. Scott Crain to research and write a book titled "UFOs, MJ-12, and the Government", published by MUFON. The book summed up their three years of research on Dr. Walker's involvement. In the past few years Cameron has turned his research interests to the involvement and actions of the President of the United States in the UFO problem. He has made 20+ trips to the National Archives and most of the various Presidential archives looking for presidential UFO material. One highlight his presidential UFO research was the chance to question Vice-president Dick Cheney on his knowledge of the UFO subject. Another highlight of the presidential UFO research was a FOIA to the White House Office of Science and Technology which yielded 1,000 pages of UFO documents from the Clinton administration.

URI GELLER - Bending More Than Spoons - Uri Geller is one of the world's most investigated and celebrated mystifier. Famous around the globe for his mind-bending abilities, he has led a unique life shrouded in debate, controversy and mystery. He is also related to Sigmund Freud. Uri Geller was born in Israel on December 20, 1946. His parents were of Hungarian and Austrian descent, and he is distantly related on his mother's side to Sigmund Freud. At the age of four he had a mysterious encounter with a sphere of light while in a garden near his house. A retired Israeli air force officer, who was an eyewitness to this encounter, validated this mystifying event decades later. He first became aware of his unusual powers when he was five. One day, during a meal, his spoon curled up in his hand and broke, although he had applied no physical pressure to it. His parents were somewhat shocked and Uri did not mention the incident to anyone else at that time. He developed these powers in school by demonstrating them to pupils. His mother thought he inherited them from Sigmund Freud. When he was eleven, he went to live in Cyprus, where he remained until he was seventeen. He then returned to Israel, served as a paratrooper in the Israeli army and fought in the Six-Day War of 1967 during which he was wounded in action. From 1968 to 1969 Uri worked as a model, being photographed for many different ad campaigns. In 1969 he began to demonstrate his powers of telepathy and psychokinesis to small audiences. By the end of 1971, he was a household name throughout Israel, thanks to his numerous stage appearances. He was given a huge boost by the then Prime Minister, Golda Meir when asked on a national radio programme what she predicted for the future of Israel, she replied, "Don't ask me - ask Uri Geller!" Uri has been studied by the world's leading scientists, including a few who worked with Albert Einstein. The world's most prestigious scientific magazine, Nature, published a paper on Uri's work at the Stanford Research Institute in the U.S.A - a unique endorsement, and an irrefutable proof that his skills are genuine. ISAAC BONEWITS - Pagans, Druids, Magic and UFOs - One of the brightest and most colorful figures of the Neopagan movement, Philip Emmons Isaac Bonewits is best known for his leadership in modern Druidism. He is a priest, magician, scholar, author, bard and activist, and has dedicated himself to reviving Druidism as a "Third Wave" religion aimed at protecting "Mother Nature and all Her children." Bonewits was born on October 1, 1949, in Royal Oak, Michigan - the perfect place, he likes to joke, for a future Archdruid. The fourth of five children (three girls, two boys), he spent most of his childhood in Ferndale, a suburb of Detroit. When he was nearly 12, the family moved to [Southern California, first on the actual beach of Capistrano Beach, later to] San Clemente, California. From his mother, a devout Roman Catholic, Bonewits developed an appreciation for the importance of religion; from his father, a convert to Catholicism from Presbyterianism, he acquired skepticism. He bounced back and forth between parochial and public schools, largely due to the lack of programs for very bright students - his I.Q. was tested at 200. His first exposure to magic came at age 13, when he met a young Creole woman from New Orleans who practiced Voodoo. She showed him some of her magic and so accurately divined the future [and so successfully performed spells] that he was greatly impressed. During his teen years, he read extensively about magic and parapsychology. He also read science fiction, which often has strong magical and psychic themes. In ninth grade, Bonewits entered a Catholic high-school seminary. He soon realized, however, that he did not want to be a priest in the Catholic faith. He returned to public school and graduated a year early. After spending a year in junior college to get foreign language credits, he enrolled at the University of California at Berkeley in 1966. At about the same time, he began practicing magic, devising his own rituals by studying the structure of rituals in books, and by observing them in various churches.

The program opened with announcer Fred Collins delivering the countdown, leading into this introduction (although later shows were partnered with Galaxy Science Fiction rather than Astounding Science Fiction): Countdown for blastoff... X minus five, four, three, two, X minus one... Fire! [Rocket launch SFX] From the far horizons of the unknown come transcribed tales of new dimensions in time and space. These are stories of the future; adventures in which you'll live in a million could-be years on a thousand may-be worlds. The National Broadcasting Company in cooperation with Street and Smith, publishers of Astounding Science Fiction presents... X Minus One.. The series was cancelled after the 126th broadcast on January 9, 1958. However, the early 1970s brought a wave of nostalgia for old-time radio; a new experimental episode, "The Iron Chancellor" by Robert Silverberg, was created in 1973, but it failed to revive the series. NBC also tried broadcasting the old recordings, but their irregular once-monthly scheduling kept even devoted listeners from following the broadcasts. All episodes of the show survive.

ZUIDEMA - Psychic Reader & New Age Advocate - Outlook of the US Presidential Elections - The word psychic (pronounced /?sa?k?k/; from the Greek psychikos-"of the soul, mental") refers to the presumed ability to perceive things hidden from the senses through means of extra-sensory perception, or to those people purported to have such abilities. It is also used to refer to theatrical performers who use techniques such as prestidigitation and cold reading to produce the appearance of such abilities. Belief in psychic phenomena is widespread in the United States, where a 2005 Gallup poll revealed that 41 percent of Americans believe in extra-sensory perception. Psychics appear regularly in fiction and science fiction, such as the The Dead Zone by Stephen King and Jean Grey from the Marvel comic book universe. A multi-billion dollar industry exists today on both large- and small-scales where psychics provide advice and counsel to millions of clients, though debunkers attribute such putative powers to intentional trickery or self-delusion. Parapsychologists have claimed that there is evidence for extrasensory perception and psychokinesis, although their work is not published in peer reviewed journals. The scientific community has not accepted this work, and no evidence of psychic phenomena has been found in more than 75 years of experiments being carried out. A recent study using neuroimaging concludes that paranormal mental phenomena do not exist. In 1988 the U.S. National Academy of Sciences gave a report on the subject that concluded there is "no scientific justification from research conducted over a period of 130 years for the existence of parapsychological phenomena." Among scientists in the National Academy of Sciences, 96% described themselves as "skeptical" of ESP, although 2% believed in psi and 10% felt that parapsychological research should be encouraged.
