the Test Design and Analysis Group of the General Electric (GE)
Nuclear Section in San Jose, California. He was assigned as
the team leader of the team conducting all the startup testing
on the Dresden 2 nuclear reactor located south of Chicago.Illinois.
At completion of the Dresden startup, he continued with GE to
support the licensing of nuclear plants. He formally retired
in 1988, but worked as a private consultant for GE until 2001.

ourselves back into antiquity, one suspects that the magic and
mystery which was undoubtedly a part of the everyday lives of
many of these ancient civilizations would remain elusive. It
is often said by 'alternative' historians that bringing a particularly
controversial ancient site or artifact to the attention of the
world will 'turn conventional wisdom on its head'. 'Conventional'
archaeologists ('conventional' presumably meaning those who
have studied and qualified as archaeologists) are criticized
for not being open-minded enough to accept new theories and
ideas. But, generally this is not the case, witness the (often
heated) discussions surrounding genuinely challenging archaeological
puzzles such as the extraordinary Turkish site of Göbekli
Tepe, the enigmatic 'Venus' figurines of the last Ice Age, the
abandonment of Mesa Verde, or the volcanic eruption which destroyed
the Mediterranean island of Thera. Spurious 'ancient' artifacts
or sites (such as the Oak Island Treasure or The Dendera Lamps)
are anything but a challenge to 'conventional' archaeology.
The furore surrounding these subjects on the web and in various
print publications is the result of speculation based on the
preconceived agenda of the writer, and as such has no place
in history or archaeology. It is this distinction between genuine
and bogus ancient mysteries that History's Mysteries attempts
to clarify. Sometimes a few hours research and a generous helping
of critical thinking can dispense with anything in the second

making their recording debut, they decide to go solo-in a manner
of speaking. The sisters split time as Tiffy, one of the most
famous entertainers in the history of pop-culture. In response
to the Milli Vanilli scandal, and lest they be discovered, a
clever recasting decision is made-Cheryl becomes a martial artist
and appears with Tiffy under the pretense of being her security
double. This new relationship between the sisters begins to
affect their PR, and fans grow to see Tiffy as an aloof, ungrateful
megastar. Thus, the novel picks up the action with the sisters'
creation of a win-a-date contest. They gently rig it to weed
out the sociopaths, and the unassuming Brian Gullen wins the
contest. Cheryl manages the vetting process and, incredibly,
Brian's abductee experiences, psychic abilities and split-personality
don't sound any serious warning bells. Cheryl is more than receptive,
even intrigued. He's a nice guy, and it's telegraphed early
that he will probably wind up with at least one of the sisters.
Brian's tales of the planet Quartzon and the adventure they
have on its forest moon make for some authentically cool science-fiction,
but the early narrative too easily shifts from the story proper
to Brian's correspondences, to a character's dreams, to a slew
of confusing conversations. The prose is clear and the tone
witty, but the organization and particulars are often muddied
by stock lamentations about scientists and skeptics' dismissal
of UFOs. However, Agar has an uncanny ability to create eccentric
characters whose concerns are nonetheless down-to-earth. Even
the Mongeese, a once proud warrior race from another galaxy,
are sympathetic in human terms. There are more than a few howlers,
blessedly intentional, like when Cheryl makes a less than romantic
bargain with Brian (eventually known as Bryan) for DNA exchange.
This genuine wit keeps the reader engaged throughout the novel's

- Russian Terrorist Bombings and in
the US The FBI Crack Down on Home Grown Militia - Russian
President Dmitry Medvedev called for tougher anti-terrorism
measures Thursday after making a surprise visit to the southern
province of Dagestan, where suicide bombers killed 12 people
Wednesday. Medvedev told local officials "the measures
to fight terrorism should be expanded, they should be more effective,
more harsh, more cruel." Russia was hit by two major terrorist
attacks this week. On Monday, suicide bombers struck two metro
stations during the morning rush-hour commute, killing 39 people.
Wednesday's deadly attacks happened in the town of Kizlyar,
near Dagestan's border with Chechnya, where Russian forces have
struggled to contain a separatist insurgency. Nine of the 12
people killed in the attacks were police officers, local officials
said. The violence in the troubled region continued Thursday,
when two suspected militants died in an explosion in Dagestan.
Police said the men may have been transporting a makeshift bomb.
No group has claimed responsibility for Wednesday's attacks,
but Doku Umarov, leader of a Chechen militant group, claimed
responsibility for Monday's metro attacks. Umarov said the twin
suicide bombings were retaliation for the killing of civilians
by Russian security forces. Alexander Bortnikov, the director
of the Federal Security Service, joined Medvedev in Dagestan
on Thursday. He said security officials had identified the organizers
of the Moscow attack as "bandits" from the North Caucasus
region and said some of them had been detained, but he didn't
